Feeling Lucky by Krystina Rivers
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is my first Krystina Rivers book. I’m always hesitant to pick up a new-to-me author but I wanted to see how well the “winning the lottery/insta-rich” trope worked in this book. I’m hit and miss with them so far. My favorite being Almost Heaven by Susan X. Meagher. Cody peeing on the floor from the shock is a great part of the discovery scene.
Here’s the blurb for Feeling Lucky:
What would you change if you won the lottery?
Lucy Crowne and Tanner Laszlo have low expectations when they stumble upon a lottery ticket and agree to split any winnings, but life quickly turns upside down when the fantasy of riches becomes reality.
Lucy used to be an eternal optimist, but she’s been stuck. Stuck in a dead-end job with a misogynistic boss. Stuck with an ex dragging their feet in a divorce. She’s desperate for a change, but how does she make it happen?
Tanner doesn’t want to change. She enjoys her construction superintendent job, traveling from city to city every few years for the next development project. With no plans to ever settle down, Tanner doesn’t even realize something might be missing.
Lucy and Tanner turn to each other while navigating the highs and lows of winning a life-changing jackpot, but what happens when, despite suddenly having enough money to buy almost anything, they start to discover that maybe all they need is each other?
Feeling Lucky was an easy read with lots of heart. The characters Tanner and Lucy worked very well together. Besides the drama with the soon-to-be ex-husband, everything seemed pretty easy and came together perfectly. Which isn’t a bad thing. It just made for a book with little to offer except for a feel-good, light, romance. Again, not a bad thing. This would be a great book for sitting in front of the fireplace with a nice beverage and just getting lost in for an afternoon or two. We all need something like that sometimes.
OH! And so many bonus points for setting it in Chicago with plenty of mentions of Milwaukee (and our pretend WNBA team) and Wisconsin. As a Milwaukee girl, it’s always nice to see some love for my city.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the ARC.
